Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Wayne Wang won the Golden Shell here in 2008 for his film A thousand years of good prayers, and this year he has returned in quite different circumstances with his documentary Soul of a Banquet in the Culinary Zinema section. Just like all the directors in this gastronomic section Wang took part in the themed dinner inspired by his film. His film runs through the life of Cecilia Chang, the 94-year-old woman who introduced America to genuine Chinese food. “Cecilia has lived for so long that her life story has become the story of the Chinese community in the USA.” Wang thinks.
A quite different proposition in the same section is provided by Steak (R)evolution, a documentary on red meat in which the French directors, Frank Ribiére and Vérane Frédiani, travel round countries like Argentina, the USA, Japan or Spain in search of the answer to the question: where can you find the best steaks in the world?
