Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Through her experience she has had on other juries the Iranian artist and filmmaker Marjane Satrapi is well aware of what lies ahead over the next few days: “watching two or three films a day and having a lot of discussions. It’s always really difficult to reach agreement. I don’t care about the genre of the film; all I ask is for the film to be good.”
She became internationally famous when the first volume of her graphic novel Persepolis was published in 2000 which she later turned into a prize-winning animated film, to be followed by Chicken with plums although this time she used real-life actors. After her third film, the road-movie Gang of the Jotas, she shot the black comedy The Voices in the US.
Although she still paints, she doesn’t draw comics any more. “If I’m going to tell a story, I prefer to write a script for a film. I used to be a bit of a loner and I liked to draw comics; now I’m somewhat more sociable and I like to be with people and making films is much more enjoyable.”
