The Argentine film La Princesa de Francia, which competed in the Official Section at Locarno, was presented yesterday at the Kursaal in Horizontes Latinos. It is the third in a series that revolve around characters from Shakespeare’s plays. Its director Matias Piñeiro acknowledged that the three films would probably be followed by a fourth as the money that each one makes finances the following one; a low-budget model that enables Piñeiro to distribute and finance his films on his own.
Ciencias naturales, which was also screened yesterday in the same section, is also an independently-produced low-budget Argentine film. It depicts the search of a 12-year-old girl for a father she has never known. It is Matías Lucchesi’s debut film, set in the harsh winter in the province of Cordoba, which is where the director is from. He said that the shooting process turned out to bereally lovely as the entire cast and crew travelled and lived together for several weeks and became a huge family
