Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Chilean director, Matías Rojas Valencia, has brought a simple story about a journey through Southern Chile to Latin Horizontes. The film is set in the same area that Matías Rojas grew up in and he recalls how, “everyday it used to be overcast, it was always raining and this began to make my family feel really depressed, especially my mother.”
His aim was to show the relationship between people and their geographical and physical contexts. “I’m amazed at how light can affect people.”
A sickly child, Rojas couldn’t attend school and says that he spent his time watching films, chatting and watching the rain fall all day long, so that, “I grew to love cinema more and more, which helped me to get through a period of my life when I wasn’t very happy.” Although the film is fictional it is based on real experiences combined with documentary elements and is Rojas’ debut as far as feature films are concerned after making several shorts and documentaries.
