Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Spanish actress Adriana Ugarte is optimistic about the final result of her work on the Horizontes Latinos Jury that is made of an actress (herself), a producer (Bruno Bettati) and a professor specialising in cinema (Paul Julian Smith). “It’s a huge responsibility, because I haven’t got the baggage that my colleagues have to be able to employ such varied and highly developed criteria as they do, but I’ll use all the tools I have available so that we can reach a decent solution.”
“It’s really difficult to watch a film as a juror,” she admits. Up to now I only knew that I really demanded a lot of myself, but when you have to judge others, you realize that the same level of professionalism that you demand from yourself, you also require when you watch other people’s work.” Although she pays most attention to the acting, she’s also interested in other things such as whether the film conveys something and whether the people making the film bear the audience in mind.
She isn’t going to allow herself to wait and see the reactions of the audience that she is watching the film with. “I’d better not look at the audience; to assess everything and get all the information out of each film I need to cut myself off. Otherwise, it’d be impossible.”
