The French director Francois Dupreyon won the Golden Shell for best film and Silver Shell for Best Actor (Jacques Dufilho) for C’est quoi la vie? here in San Sebastián in 1999 and also competed in the Official Section with Inguélézi in 2004. This year he has returned with Mon âme par toi guérie adapted from one of his novels.
The starting point for the main character in the film, whose title comes from a poem by Baudelaire, is that he rejects the gift he has to heal others that he has inherited from his mother. The first idea the director had was of a man with a gift, although he claims he doesn’t remember where it came from. He wanted to write a script based on this image, but it ended up being turned into a novel, which he has finally managed to make into a film. Dupreyon sees certain similarities between the writing process and the gift that Fredi has in his film. “Ideas also come to me and I don’t know where they come from, just like words come to Fredi that trigger events”, he explains.
