Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Denis Villeneuve plays with the idea of look-alikes to convey to the audience a feeling of “horror” and to reveal an omnipresent sense of monstrousness”. There are several nods in his film towards the great film masters. “It’s very difficult to make a fresh, innovative film. I’ve been inspired by lots of people, such as David Lynch, for example. There are genuine masters who have worked in the same area and this is a nod to them,” he said.
The director explores the concept of identity and questions about the “other.” He acknowledged at the press conference that he gave yesterday that shooting the film answered a “visceral need.” He qualified this by saying that his aim had been to make films “from a position of freedom” and escape the pressure imposed by the demands of the box office.
Villeneuve has brought two films to the Festival as apart from Enemy, he is also presenting Prisoners among the special screenings.
