Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
With, his first animated film, Argentine director Juan José Campanella is back at the Festival where he emerged as a moral victor four years ago in view of the success he had with El secreto de sus ojos, which although it left San Sebastián empty-handed, did go on to win the Oscar for best foreign language film. Surprisingly, given the subject of Futbolín, at the press conference he gave yesterday after the screening of his film Campanella claimed he was not a big football fan, although he did recognize the value of football when it comes to channeling passions that are so characteristic in life such as the spirit of self-improvement or the ability to face up to new challenges. In this respect he didn’t think that his new film deserved to be defined as a film about football: “Saying that this is a film about football is like claiming that Casablanca is a war film.”
He thought that the fact that his film had been chosen to open the Festival this year would provide a great boost to professionals in animation in both Argentina and Spain, and in passing it would help to break down the stereotype that this kind of film can only be made in the USA.
