Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The Uruguayan producer Mariela Besuievsky is considered to be one of the most powerful figures on the contemporary Latin American film scene. She won an Oscar in 2010 for El Secreto de sus ojos, in the same year that another of her films, Balada triste de trompeta, won the awards for best director and best screenplay at the Venice Film Festival. At the moment she’s here in San Sebastián to judge the thirteen films that are competing for the Golden Shell.
She trained in Cuba as a director’s assistant, where she realised that she liked production and that this suited her better. This led to her make El dirigible, a feature film that took her to Cannes. It was then that she came across Herrero, who suggested that they work together in Spain, and without closing down her production company in Uruguay, she has moved to Europe, at least for now.
