Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Greek director, Michalis Konstantatos, is competing in the New Directors section with his first film Luton, although he has previously directed work for theater and television. The film tells the story of three very different people who find a novel way of escaping their predictable conventional lives.
Konstantatos says that his film is a warning about not judging people by appearances and how boredom can become really dangerous. He also wanted to raise the alarm about the consequences that we (and others) may suffer if we make no effort to give a focus to our lives. All over the world we hear stories about ordinary people who are not psychopathic but who suddenly turn into monsters and commit appalling acts of violence.
