Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Director Álex De la Iglesia, accompanied by a large part of his cast along with producer Enrique Cerezo, presented his latest film Las brujas de Zugarramurdi, at a packed press conference in the Kursaal yesterday. The film seems destined to be a big hit at the box office and its director said this proved that you could be successful only using local resources. “I really respect those colleagues who choose to shoot in English with foreign actors. But nevertheless I think that one of the wonderful things that we have in Spain are our actors, as apart from being magnificent professionals they produce a sensation that they are close to the audience that is priceless. I like my characters to suffer in the places where I’ve suffered.”
De la Iglesia also confessed that his film was a faithful reflection of the misanthropy that he suffered from. “My aim is for people to enjoy enjoys themselves reflecting on just how dumb we men can get to be and how wicked certain women are.”
