If you are going to set off on a great adventure, it’s a good idea to take along a good travelling companion with you, because it takes two to have a real adventure. This was on the adventure that the children and adults from San Sebastián set out on who went to see Zipe y Zape at the Festival.
With Zipe y Zape director Oskar Santos has radically changed his style. His previous film was the thriller El mal ajeno in 2010. “I’ve been carried away by what I saw in my childhood. I used to be crazy about comics, but I thought it would be a bit complicated to transfer Escobar’s aesthetic to the big screen. That’s why I decided to transfer the characters to a film like the ones I used to watch when I was small and I used to read those comics: mythical films like the Goonies, Back to the Future or ET, which you can see influences of.
As for its screening at Toronto, they consider Zipe y Zape to be a universal film that can be understood and enjoyed all over the world. There are little Zipi y Zapes all over the world.”
