Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Today the Culinary Zinema section features the BBC 4 documentary that James Nutt shot about the trip that the internationally-renowned chef Yotam Ottolenghi made to his home town of Jerusalem to discover the hidden treasures of its extraordinarily rich and diverse food culture. Over three weeks Ottolenghi went into both Jewish and Arab homes to discover how they cooked and to learn more about their gastronomic culture. Nutt used a very small crew so that the film would flow as naturally as possible. Although the BBC didn’t want a film with political overtones, this turned out to be a practically impossible task. As Nutt explained: “at first I was rather skeptical about whether the power of food could bring people together but I’ve discovered that this is a very powerful weapon.”
As always the film is accompanied by a themed dinner inspired by the film. On this occasion it will be prepared by local chef Joxean Eizmendi at the Ilarra restaurant.
