Spanish director Agustí Villaronga admits that he was a bit nervous about the idea of forming part of the Official Section jury at this year’s Festival but once he’d got over the initial fright he was delighted to accept. Although coming to a festival is always a luxury, because you can watch films that otherwise you would have problems getting to see, he thinks that coming here as a juror means you enjoy it even more as there’s a lot less pressure on you.
He was also encouraged to accept the Festival’s offer to be a juror because of the level of the films which he reckons will be really good.
He thinks that, “to be a good juror you need to be very open-minded, and accept that what you think is amazing, might not seem so great to someone else with a different sensibility” and recognizes that when he comes to judge films, “I try to perceive the effect they have not just on me but also on others.”
