Tana Schémbori and Juan Carlos Maneglia have made numerous commercials and TV series in their native Paraguay and won the Films in Progress Award at San Sebastián in 2011 with their first full-length film 7 Cajas. Thanks to this award they managed to finish off the film and they are now presenting it at the Festival this year in the New Directors section with the actors Celso Franco and Lali Gonzalez.
The film came about after a night-time visit to the famous Market Mercado 4 in Asuncion and the characters use Yopará, a mixture of Guarani and Spanish, which the actors had to pick up from the stall-holders at the market.
The film was premiered in Asunción in August and has also been screened at the Toronto Festival. After being presented here in San Sebastián it will be shown at other European festivals and has already been sold in France and Great Britain.
