After winning the Silver Shell for Best Director in 2009 for La mujer sin piano Javier Rebollo is once again competing at San Sebastian with El muerto y ser feliz, an unusual road movie shot in Argentina.
“The idea that we have aimed to convey to the audience is that they shouldn’t believe everything they see,” Rebollo explained hen he had to justify one of the most striking aspects of the film, which is the continuous voiceover at ironically provides viewers with information on what they have seen, are seeing and are going to see. The filmmaker denied that this device might create contradictions in the narrative. “The film isn’t contradictory; it’s paradoxical.”
