Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
To mark the tenth anniversary of Films in Progress the Festival has organised a retrospective that includes the nine films that won the Films in Progress Award in previous years, (the tenth, 7 Cajas, is now competing for the Kutxa-New Directors award) and another nine that the selection committee has chosen for their exceptional quality or because of the huge impact they have had at all kinds of festivals. Sadly many excellent films have had to be left out due to a lack of space.
The Festival hopes this short season will stress how important this initiative is, that it launched in late 2001. Almost all the films that have taken part in this section have been finished off, and many of them have appeared at leading festivals and most of them, once finished, have formed part of the programme here.
Although the screenings at Films in Progress are reserved for professionals, there is a growing awareness that it represents an important pool of future talent that the public will be able to admire at forthcoming festivals.
