Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
In making Las razones del corazón, the Mexican director Arturo Ripstein was inspired by the character of Madame Bovary, but not the character that he discerned when he first read Flaubert’s novel: “At the time I was a teenager and I thought she was daft; she was a woman who needed a slap in the face, and this wasn’t the character that I wanted to bring to the big screen.”Scriptwriter Paz Alicia Garcíadiego describes how, “the film strips Madame Bovary of all her silly fantasies and brings her face-to-face with the anxieties of a typical modern woman, frustrated by nothing in particular.”
Ripstein claimed he was really pleased with the final result. “The gap between what you think and plan and what you see on the screen is usually enormous. On this occasion it is tiny.”
The fact that all the sequences take place indoors made the entire shooting process really claustrophobic, although Ripstein claims that when he thought about enclosing the story inside a building, it wasn’t just a dramatic resource but was also for budgetary reasons.
