Although the main character in Mexican director Bernardo Arellano’s film Entre la noche y el día is an autistic man, when he presented the film yesterday in San Sebastián, Arellano stressed that it wasn’t really a film about autism. In actual fact what he wanted to show was how if someone was noble-hearted, despite having to cope with all sorts of problems, then nature would finally come to their aid. “
To a certain extent the entire film is a fable, and contains a moral as fables always do,” he explains. He also says that what he was interested in was getting a moral reaction from the audience.
For his first feature Bernardo Arellano has combined both professionals and an amateur actor in the leading role, which wasn’t easy at first but later proved to be really enriching.
