Last night this year’s Donostia award was presented to Glenn Close at a ceremony in the Kursaal. Host Edurne Ormazabal first recalled the work she had done on screen, stage and television, which has earned her numerous Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony awards, as well as five Oscar nominations. The award itself was then presented by Rodrigo Garcia, the director of her latest film Albert Nobbs, which was screened after the gala. Garcia provided his own personal vision of the actress, in which he stressed her insatiable curiosity about all aspects of film-making, and her extraordinary mixture of self-confidence and humility in a spectacular career that spoke for itself”. After receiving her award Glenn Close revealed that this was the first life-time achievement award that she had ever received and she thanked the army of people standing behind her who represented all the people who had collaborated with her since the beginning of her career. She also said it was a great privilege to be an actress and she promised to continue to be fascinated by her fellow human-beings and, “to find stories that I hope you will love”.
