A Jamaâ tells the story of a village where sets were built in order to shoot a film and portrays the consequences that this has for the villagers.The actual people from the village took part as actors in the film which makes it highly realistic and really fresh.“It took me three months to convince them to let me shoot”, the director explained.
“This is all about a really complex religious problem,”the director Daoud Aoulad-Syad pointed out, who stressed that you need to bear in mind that a mosque in Morocco is the house of God. “Cinema isn’t a question of censorship or democracy; it’s a question of feeling and whether you have something to say, the director said,who feels that in contemporary cinema, “people forget the human side of things and merely try to be provocative.”
