Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Kim Jee-woon’s I Saw the Devil has received a really mixed reception at the Festival. For some the Korean film is not really suitable for San Sebastián and would fit in much better at Festivals that are more orientated towards fantasy and horror films like at Sitges. For others a film like this with lots of action and fight scenes is a welcome break from the norms that govern these competitions. The fact is that Mr. Kim filled a peaceful Saturday morning with fight scenes, blood, shocks and bodies chopped to pieces.
When asked about the violence in his film, the directed pointed out that,“To fight the devil you have to become the devil.”He was able to present the full-length version of his film here whereas in Korea some scenes had to be cut because they were too violent.
