The Turkish director Semih Kaplanoglu took part in the Zabaltegi get-togethers to talk about his film Bal/Honey. It tells the story of a six-year old boy who heads off in to the woods after school to see where his father, a beekeeper, hangs up his beehives. The director explained that the film, which this year has received the Golden Bear in Berlin, forms part of a trilogy about the life of a poet and that this is the final part, dealing with the poet’s youth. He explained that his interest in poetry came from his teenage years when he used to write poems. This had been his first contact with art, and in this film he had wanted to interpret film through poetry.
The latest film by José Luis Guerín Guest was screened in the Specials section in Zabaltegi yesterday. It has just been shown at Venice and provided a kind of therapy for the director after his negative experiences at different festivals.
