Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The French actor, scriptwriter and director, Hippolyte Girardot, was at the Zabaltegi get-togethers yesterday to present his film Yuki & Nina, that he has made together with the Japanese director Nobuhiro Suwa. He said that it had been rewarding but difficult to work with Suwa as they had no common language. It had also been really hard to find a nine-year-old French girl of Japanese origin who could act in the leading role of their film.
The Taiwanese director Ang Lee was also in San Sebastián yesterday to present Taking Woodstock in Zabaltegi. The film is about a down-on-his-luck interior designer who moves back to upstate New York and inadvertently plays a pivotal role in making the Woodstock Festival into the happening that it was. Ang Lee recalled how when he was 14 years old and living in Taiwan he saw a news item on a black and white TV about Woodstock but it didn’t make much of an impression on him; he remembers the Americans landing on the moon in the same year much more clearly. He also said that he had enjoyed going back to comedy after so many years of making dramas and that after reading the book he had felt the sense of innocence he needed to make the film.
