Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Isaki Lacuesta, the director of Los condenados, said that he originally intended to make a documentary inspired by the impression that an illegal excavation site in Catalonia made on him.“I began to think about it as a documentary that I intended to call “The common grave”, which is something that has affected a lot of countries in many periods of history. ”He explained that the film is about, “the legitimacy of the armed struggle and what is the internal conflict or tragedy that drives someone to decide to kill someone else to defend an idea. ”After a long process lasting several years, he finally decided that, “this entire moral debate and ethical approach was too complicated to make into a documentary and the fictional format gradually prevailed”.
The film deliberately doesn’t mention any specific country or refer to any guerrilla organisation, as “it has been made with the aim of being credible in any context, because this is a type of conflict that occurs in many places.”
