Madrid-based Casa Sefarad-Israel is launching a Sephardi- Jewish short film competition, teaming with the ECAM Madrid FilmSchool.
ECAM students and alums, plus students from other film schools around the world,are eligible.
HQ-ed in Madrid,but with delegations in Paris and Israel, the Casa Sefarad seeks to establish cultural links between Israel and Sephardi Jews around the world.
The Sephardis are Jews from Iberian Peninsula or Maghreb, including the descendants of Jews expelled from Spain in 1492 by Spain’s Catholic Kings.
Casa Sefarad and the ECAM are issuing a call for short film screenplay applications, which runs through Dec. 23, said Casa Sefarad communications director Ursula O’Kuinghttons.
The winning screenplay will be put into production at the latest April 2010. Shorts should turn, if tangentially, on Sephardi or Jewish themes.
The Casa Sefarad-Israel and ECAM agreement was announced at a Sales Office Happy Hour Friday evening by Casa Sefarad director general Diego de Ojeda.
