Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Ori is the result of a failed attempt to shoot a documentary on the Georgian War that broke in August last year. Director Miguel Ángel Jiménez and scriptwriter Luis Moya took a while to get their visas and the trip was delayed. When they got there, they found that the war was over and this led to the idea for this film, as the rest of the crew were already on the way and they had obtained funding. “We were so keen to shoot, that we were desperate to carry on”, the director explains. They shut themselves away in a hotel room in Tbilisi to write the script and came up with two parallel stories. The Georgians that they have showed the result to have apparently been pleased and proud: “despite their distance from us, these are things that can happen anywhere. These are people that could easily be your sister or girlfriend, but you can see a certain sadness in them because of the war.”
After the Festival they’re heading off to Kazakhstan to make other film in the same style.
