In some of the earliest deals to be close on San Sebastian, Francois Ozon’s Competition player The Refuge has been licensed to Spain and Argentina. Film is sold by Elizabeth Perlie at Jean Labadie’s Paris-based Le Pacte.
Karma Films, one of Spain’s top niche and arthouse players, has taken Spanish rights. ernardo Zupnik’s Distribution Co,Argentina’s biggest indie distribution house, has inked Argentina.
The Refuge has also seen many other territory sales which Le Pacte will announce after San Sebastian, Perlie said.
Made by one of the bestknown directors in the main Competition at San Sebastian, Refuge deals with a pregnant junkie bonding with the brother oTher dead lover over one seaside summer. The Spanish and Argentine sales underscore how selection at San Sebastian, especially in Competition, can trigger licensing deals.
"Ozon is one of the most important and talented directors in France and this is a very emotional and direct movie, said Perlie, adding that she thought that San Sebastian was a festival which is "growing. Spain’s main daily newspapers covers San Sebastian a lot. So having a film in competition is almost a sure way of finding a distributor," said Rezo acquisitions head Laurent Danielou, who cites the cases of Rezo sales on Frozen River, Honeysucker and Stephane Brize’s I’m Not Here To Be Loved after their San Sebastian screenings.
Nights are long inside Naomi and Ram's room. Tonight, they've invited Marina over and their messy space is under scrutiny. Exploring intimacy as personal playground, skin as intimate map, Naomi's docile body is coming loose amidst the tension of a room she continues knowing and unknowing. The small expressive child inside her is itching to ring its giggle through the night, before day breaks.
