Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Mikel Olaciregi opened the first Audiovisual Digital Forum that took place yesterday at the Kursaal. The event was organised by the Festival in collaboration with Tabakalera and Media Euskal Herria, and is a result of a meeting held two years ago with the aim of analysing the challenges raised by new digital formats.
Through the Film+D project the Festival has pledged to make improvements in two aspects of the distribution of digital contents. On the one hand, the organisers have adapted all the official film theatres at the Festival to meet the needs of all producers by incorporating digital HD and 3D projectors.
The other pillar in this project according to Olaciregi is to set up a platform to encourage legislation that will enable contents on the Internet to recoup the investment that producers have made. Faced with the threat posed by illegal downloading, the Festival director explained that, “we need innovative ideas that will enable us to maintain the value chain of cinema. If producers cannot recoup their investment, the chain will be broken and festivals may even cease to exist. ”The forum was moderated by Antonio Moulet, and was divided into four panels where they basically debated two subjects: new digital distribution channels and the digitisation of film theatres.
