Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Features, shorts, animated films, documentaries and a special selection from the Basque Film Library will all form part of the Basque Film Day devoted to local film production that this year will be taking place on the 24th of September.
In order to give a fresh boost to this event, there will be a new section this year, “Premieres”, that according to Mikel Olaziregui is,“a huge step forward, as we are going to screen four films that have never been seen anywhere before".
Miren Azkarate, the Basque Minister of Culture, said that the Basque Film Day was no longer detached from the other sections and had now become totally integrated into the official programme at the Festival, while Bingen Zupiria, director of Basque public television, claimed that,“the Festival’s loudspeaker effect has a big impact in our society and helps the Basque films shown here to be screened elsewhere".
On the following day, the 4th Trans-Pyrenean Co-Production Forum (Lau Haizetara) will be held in the Kursaal that brings together producers, distributors, television stations and other professionals in the sector.
