Medical student Vasco Leitao, lives on money that he receives from his aunts in Trás-os-Montes. They think that he's taking his studies seriously, but Vasco prefers parties and beautiful women, especially Alice, a seamstress, which does not make him popular with her father, the tailor Caetano, who knows very well that Vasco es heavily in debt. Vasco's problems grow. on the same day that he fails his final exam, he receives a letter from his aunts annoucing their arrival time in Lisbon.
