martha Beck, a single nurse who works in an alabama hospital, joins a lonely hearts club and receives a letter from the Spanish emigrant, Ray Fernández. Inmmediately attracted to him, she tries to convince him to invite her to come live in his home in New York. Ray quickly writes back to say that he uses his body to obtain money from middle aged women. She is not put off, and she even goes on business trips with him, pretending to be his sister. Finally, however, Martha's jealousy leads to murder.
