Betsy, a Canadian nurse, moves to Haití to take over the care od Jessica Holland, an invalid that appears to suffer a rare form of mental paralysis. Betsy falls in love with Paul, Jessica's husband, and at the same time is being courted by Paul's brother-in-law. Believing that Paul is still loved by his wife, Betsy takes Jessica to a voodoo ceremony in hopes of curing her.
