The difficulties inherent in bringing to the screen a novel with such diluted, episodic action were overcome by Jack Conway. The spectator reads Dickens without losing the narrative thread in any of the chapters. Conwy did not empli the comfortable resource od adapting a work of literature, that is of omitting that which soesn't fit the medium of film.
