This film weaves together the stories of three couples which together form a sample of the sifferente social classes existing in Taipei, Taiwan: a socially marginal young woman from a modest family and a well-to-do photographer; a writer who longs for independence and a doctor who thinks only of racing; a possesive mother and her imprisoned daugther, Suzanne, who copes with her boredom by tepephoning everyone she can think of.
A double murder, real or dreamed, complicates the situation.
