A Japanese sailor, Iheiji, arrives in Hong Kong and encounters his wife, Shiho, who he had abandonen eight years earlier when he went looking for his fortune. She was subsequently kidnapped, as were many Japanese women, by Chinese pirates and forced into porstitution. Iheiji soons becomes the manager of a japanese brothel in Hong kong, so he buys Shiho and puts her to work for him. Convinced that the money the girls send home assists his country's beleaguered economy, Iheiji decides to exend his business to malaya. He and the girls, however, are soon trappe by the opening of the Russo-Japanese war.
