California 1908. THe young John McTeague leaves his job in the gold mine to become the apprentice to a travelling dentist. After a few years, he establishes himself in San Francisco and makes friends with Marcus Schouler, a veterinarian. One day marcus takes his young and beautiful cousin, Trina, to John so he can repair her teeth and he is enamoured with her. Jealousy and conflict are created when Trina wins a fortune in the lottery. The three protagonists are soon confronted witha a cycle of lies and crimes.
