Synopsis

Vladimir Ivanoff, a Russian circus musician, during a tour of the United States decides to defect and ask for asylum while visiting one of the most revered American institutions: the New York store "Bloomingdale's". A security guard from that famous store befriends the musician and takes him to live in his apartment in Harlem. Vladimir's Italian girlfriend dreams of becoming an intrepid TV reporter. Meanwhile, a Cuban immigration lawyer takes over representing Vladimir.

Vladimir's story begins by showing part of his life in Moscow. This is not different from the vast majority of Soviet citizens. He lives in a one-room apartment with his entire family. Father, mother, sister, grandfather and mother. He queues up to buy shoes and medical supplies and is threatened by the KGB. But now the circus is going to New York... what a decadence!... and Vlad's life is about to change. And boy does it change!
