Tom, wounded during the war, returns in 1920 to his birthhome to work in the local newspaper. Married to Beth and waiting for the arrival of his first son, both are reaching the breaking point of their unstable marriage union. One morning he meets a painter arrived from Melbourne, Alice, a lonely and independent woman, capable ot facing the curious and the scandal that hers and her friends free lifestyle create in the village.
