Juan and Carmen, a marriaged couple with a four-years-old son -Iván-, maintain friendly relationship in spite of being separated. After a trip to Italy, where she makes new friends, Carmen introduces her husband to the office worker Alberto, also separated and with marital problems. Alberto will try to take the Carmen-Juan relationship as a model to apply it to his own situation.
