Yet another year, the San Sebastian Festival, the San Telmo Museoa, ICAA (Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts), the Red Balloon Alliance association and CIMA (Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media), in collaboration with Grupo Kids and Party Multiespacios de Ocio Educativo, bring Puxika Gorria, the playroom service offering creative activities running throughout the event, from September 18 to 25.
In its eighth edition, Puxika Gorria will have an area of 120 square metres in San Telmo, where an indoor space with covered terrace will be fitted out. The service, intended to improve work-life balance during the Festival, will be open to the children of accredited individuals, Festival staff, and members of the general public. This year, Puxika Gorria will extend its opening hours for the public, and cinema ticket holders will be able to use the service at any indicated time.
A member of the Red Balloon Alliance, Puxika Gorria is an activity twinned with Le Ballon Rouge and the Berlinale Kindergarten, the spaces for reconciliation run by the Cannes and Berlin Festivals. Other film festivals recently added to the initiative include Annecy (France), Punto de Vista (Navarre), and Seminci (Valladolid).
Puxika Gorria has the support of companies and institutions including the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, Buena Pinta Media, CIMA (Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media), ICAA (Instiute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts), Elástica, German Films, Morena Films and San Telmo Museoa, and the collaboration of DonostiKidSS, Itsas Museoa - Maritime Museum and Grupo Kids and Party Multiespacios de Ocio Educativo.

The playroom will open from September 18 to 24 from 10:00 to 18:00 and on September 25 from 10:00 to 13:00, and each child registered by an accredited person can spend a maximum of six consecutive hours there at any one time. As for the audience, they may stay for a maximum of 3 hours, coinciding with the screening time of the movie their guardians are going to watch.
Both accreditation holders and festivalgoers must book their spots at least 24 hours in advance. Those wishing to apply for a place should fill out this form, indicating the days that they would like to book the service, the age of the child, and providing proof of their Festival accreditation or a movie ticket. Places are limited and accreditation holders will have priority.
Families registered with the service will enjoy free activities for children. The price for the 8 days of the Festival is 65 euros; 40 for three days; and 20 euros for one day. The general public must pay 8 euros and present their movie ticket.
The carers, from the company Grupo Kids and Party Multiespacios de Ocio Educativo, speak Basque, Spanish and English and have all the necessary insurance for working in the space. The company has overseen Puxika Gorria since its inception in 2019 and is a pioneer in childcare through various projects in partnership with the Red Balloon Alliance.
