The seventh edition of Proyecta, the joint initiative of Ventana Sur, the Marché du Film-Festival de Cannes and the San Sebastian Festival, will host the presentation of twelve projects by filmmakers seeking funding and partners for their first or second movies. Ventana Sur will take place in Montevideo from 2-6 December.
During the activity, the project representatives will have the opportunity to meet production companies, international sales agents and festival representatives with the aim of fostering co-productions between Europe and Latin America.
Proyecta will consist of a pitching sessions by the project producers, as well as other professional networking events.
This year’s selection represents a wide diversity of projects from Europe and Latin America. Nine of the selected projects are from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Uruguay, while three are European, but with a strong connection with Latin America: two have Spanish production and one Swiss: Malestar tropical / Tropical Malaise, by Jorge Cadena, which participated in the last Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum at the San Sebastian Festival. In addition, five of the projects already have European co-production, specifically with France and Spain.
Proyecta is part of Ventana Sur, Latin America’s biggest audiovisual market, organised jointly by the Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales de Argentina (INCAA), the Agencia del Cine y el Audiovisual del Uruguay (ACAU) and the Marché du Film-Festival de Cannes. The activity boasts the backing of Creative Europe MEDIA. The 2024 edition will take place in Montevideo from 2-6 December in what will be the 16th edition of Ventana Sur and the first held in the River Plate region hub.
The representatives of the selected projects will have the opportunity to compete for various awards. One project will have the chance to participate in next year’s Sørfond Pitching Forum, where they may (provided that they meet the Sørfond’s requirements) have the option of their presentation to potential Norwegian co-producers in addition to automatic application for the Sørfond grants should the project subsequently obtain said Norwegian co-production. As a new feature, the producers of the projects selected for the activity will be invited to the San Sebastian Festival in 2025. The projects will also compete for the new Sideral Cinema Award, consisting of the pre-acquisition of the international rights of one of the future films for a guaranteed minimum of 10,000 euros. These awards join other networking events to boost internationalisation of the projects and thereby help to speed up their development.
