Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The 72nd San Sebastián Film Festival was officially opened last night in an event hosted by the Catalan comedians, Andreu Buenafuente and Berto Romero, accompanied by the actress, Bárbara Goenaga, at the Kursaal.
During the opening gala, Javier Bardem received the Donostia Award he was unable to pick up last year due to the actors’ strike, while the FIPRESCI Grand Prix went to Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things. It was presented by the Brazilian f ilm critic Ela Bittencourt to the general manager of WDSMP, Manuel Muro. The ceremony also included the traditional review of the various sections of the Festival culminating in the presentation of the Official Selection Jury chaired this year by the winner of the Golden Shell 2023, Jaione Camborda.
“It is particularly moving for me to be here today, accompanied by great filmmakers and professionals, at this important film festival whose quality and freedom of speech resonate around the world”, she said.
“As this year’s jury, we take on this responsibility out of respect, commitment and love for cinema and the life that passes through it, as a compass in our decisions. Exciting days lie ahead of immersion in all that unites us and shapes us as human beings, as inhabitants of this strange and fascinating world in which we live”, she concluded.
The gala was followed by the world premiere of Emmanuelle, the latest movie from Audrey Diwan competing in the Official Selection.
