Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Christos Nikou (Athens) is a self-taught director, screenwriter, and producer. In 2012. he directed his only short film, Km, which participated in over 40 international film festivals. His first feature film, Apples, opened the Venice Orizzonti section in 2020, playing at Telluride and TIFF that same year. Greece’s submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, Apples was released in more than 70 countries and was named one of the top five international films by the National Board of Review.
In 2023, Nikou made his English-language debut with Fingernails, starring Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed, Jeremy Allen White and Luke Wilson, which he directed, co-wrote and co-produced with Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films and Filmnation. The film competed for the Golden Shell at San Sebastian, where it won the FIPRESCI Award, premiered at Telluride and TIFF and was released worldwide by Apple.
At the moment he is working on his third feature film, Background.
