At the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Festival, the Velodrome will host premieres of the series El otro lado and Esta ambición desmedida, as well as the presentation of the new season of Go!azen. Sunday 24 at 17:00 will see the premiere of El otro lado / The Other Side, a new original 6-episode Movistar Plus+ series directed by Javier Ruiz Caldera (Viladecans, 1976) and Alberto de Toro (Barcelona, 1972), and created, co-written and starred by Berto Romero (Cardona, 1974). The popular television comedian, author of series such as Mira lo que has hecho, makes his first inroads to the horror genre with the tale of Nacho, a journalist specialising in paranormal activity whose professional and personal life is in turmoil. Their attendance to the screening has been confirmed by Berto Romero himself, the directors of the series and several of the actors: Andreu Buenafuente, Nacho Vigalondo, Eva Ugarte and María Botto.
On Thursday 28 at 19:30 it will be the turn of Esta ambición desmedida. Directed by Santos Bacana (Madrid, 1991), Cris Trenas (Madrid, 1987) and Rogelio González (Madrid, 1991), Esta ambición desmedida / This Excessive Ambition comes in three parts making the most of the creation and setting in motion of the musical tour entitled Sin cantar ni afinar to explore the creative and personal voyage of the artist C. Tangana. The premiere of the series will be attended by the singer from Madrid and by the creators of the documentary project.
Finally, on Friday 29 (18:30) the Velodrome will host the premiere of the first episode in the tenth season of the series Go!azen, attended by the new members of the cast, who will give a performance before the start of the screening. Go!azen is a programme for adolescents directed by Jabi Elortegi (Bermeo, 1969) and Itziar Gómez (Errenteria, 1964) broadcast on ETB and which has enjoyed widespread success during its nine seasons on the air. The series brings a musical narration of the adventures of a group of young people at a summer camp run with very strict rules.
Added to the screenings of these three series, the Velodrome will once again provide the venue for the Concert & Screening organised with the Basque National Orchestra and the SGAE Foundation, which will take place on Saturday 23 at 12:00. The performance combines the symphonic rendering of soundtracks and a collage of scenes from the films that inspired them. Entry is free. However, those wishing to attend must collect the corresponding invitation, available from 16-22 September from the San Sebastian Festival information point at the Kursaal, from the Donostia Turismo office, and from the Velodrome itself on the actual day of the concert.
Lastly, and as usual, the Velodrome will also host a showing of the Festival closing gala. The event will kick off at 18:45 with the screening of Bâtiment 5 / Les indésirables, the closing film of Perlak, continuing with a live broadcast of the awards ceremony of the 71st edition, and ending with the screening of the film closing the Official Selection, Dance First, which will be introduced by the film team.
