Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Offworld, the Movistar series that was premiered yesterday in the Official Selection, explores the consequences of a widespread blackout caused by a solar storm when it hits the earth. The series is made up of five stand-alone episodes shot by five leading directors: Rodrigo Sorogoyen, Raúl Arévalo, Isa Campo, Alberto Rodríguez and Isaki Lacuesta. The creative coordinator of this apocalyptic project is Fran Araújo, who, inspired by the podcast, “The great blackout”, by José A. Peréz Ledo, took the opportunity to bring together “people that I wanted to work with and who fortunately said yes when I called them,” in a single project. Unlike the podcast that focused on a political conspiracy, the series pays tribute to the public professionals who stand up for us. Araujo said that, “after the pandemic those of us who had created the series felt we needed to defend the role played by the institutions because sometimes we forget that they are the ones who keep society going; otherwise we’d sink into barbarism”.
