Coming from eight countries, these works have been selected from among the 194 works submitted. This year’s edition will run on September 19, 20 and 21 and will recover its site at the San Telmo Museum.
As usual, the selection comes with a wide variety of subjects: inspirational tales, peculiar love stories, portraits of family conflicts and period and fantasy movies, all bringing a look at the enormous diversity of Latin American cinema.
Agustina San Martín (Todo el Mundo) and Sofía Quirós Úbeda (Madre Pájaro) will participate for the first time at the San Sebastian Festival with the projects of their second works, while Emiliano Torres returns to the event to defend Rona, which will be his second feature after having competed in 2016 with El invierno / The Winter in the Festival’s Official Selection and having carried off the Special Jury Prize and the Best Cinematography Award.
Anahí Berneri (Leche condensada / Condensed Milk) has also participated in the Official Selection with Encarnación / Incarnation (2012), Aire libre / Open Air (2014) and Alanis (2017), with which she won the Silver Shell for Best Director. She is another of the filmmakers accompanied in her career by the San Sebastian Festival. As far as participants in New Directors are concerned, Niles Atallah (La muñeca de fuego / The Fire Doll) has participated with Lucía (2010); Juan Sebastián Mesa (Lovers Go Home! El lugar donde no estoy) with La Roya / The Rust (2021), coming from the Forum and WIP Latam, and Ulises Porra (Bajo el mismo sol) with Tigre (2017) and Carajita (2021). For their part, Mariano Luque (Inspección en la tierra / Inspection on Earth), Clarisa Navas (Se queman de la misma forma / They Burn in the Same Way) and Beatriz Seigner (Voo do Flamingo / The Blue Flamingo) presented Salsipuedes (2012), Las mil y una / One in a Thousand (2020) and Los silencios (2018) respectively in Horizontes Latinos. Finally, Helena Taberna, who has shown her previous works in Zinemira and Made in Spain (Yoyes, 2000 and La buena nueva / The Good News, 2009) will present the Basque project Nosotros / Us, an adaptation of Isaac Rosa’s novel ‘Final Feliz’.
Completing the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum selection are the first participations in the San Sebastian Festival of María Paz González (Morir de Pie), Rodrigo Ruiz Patterson (La hija del general) and Bruno Santamaría Razo (Seis meses en el edificio rosa con azul / Six Months in the Pink and Blue Building).
In 2022, three of the titles to have participated in the Forum have been selected for different sections of the San Sebastian Festival: La hija de todas las rabias / Daughter of Rage, by Laura Baumeister in New Directors; Dos estaciones, by Juan Pablo González in Horizontes Latinos, and El Suplente (formerly El maestro de literatura), by Diego Lerman in the Official Selection.
