Actress Loreto Mauleón will be joining the actor and director Paco León to present the opening gala of the 70th San Sebastian Festival tonight at 20:30. It will be broadcast live by the TVE channel, La 2 and on ETB1, eitb. eus, the Festival website, and on the festival’s Tik Tok account and the ceremony will be directed by the filmmaker Santiago Tabernero in an event that will largely revolve around its 70th anniversary. “This will be a celebratory gala because we have a thousand reasons to be cheerful”, he said. The gala will pay homage to several participants from the first Festival in 1953, and various guests will take to the stage to announce this year’s contents, which will also include the presentation of the FIPRESCI Grand Prix to the film Drive My Car (Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, 2021). As usual, the opening gala will provide the opportunity to welcome the members of the Official Jury, and they will be followed by the filmmaker Alberto Rodríguez together with the actors Miguel Herrán and Javier Gutiérrez to introduce the premiere of Modelo 77 / Prison 77, the film opening the Official Selection.
