Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Manu Calvo (Madrid) has coproduced the feature films La herida (The Wound, 2013), by Fernando Franco, Special Jury Prize and Silver Shell for Best Actress at the San Sebastian Festival; El futuro (The Future, 2013), by Luis López Carrasco, premiered at the Locarno Festival and winner of the Best Film Award at the Lima Independiente Festival and at the Uruguay Winter Fest; Planeta Asperger (2014), a documentary directed by Ricardo de Gracia and María Barroso; and Cinco lobitos (2022), debut movie from Alauda Ruiz de Azúa premiered in the Panorama Section of the Berlinale 2022, winner of 8 awards at the Malaga Festival 2022, including the Golden Biznaga for Best Film, and which will close this year’s Zinemira section out of competition in San Sebastian. He has also produced 12 short films selected for more than 1,000 festivals and which have harvested more than 300 awards.
He has directed Champions, the remake of Javier Fesser’s Campeones, premiered at the Red Sea International Film Festival 2022, and 4 short films selected for more than 170 festivals and which have landed 25 awards, including the Goya for Best Documentary Short Film for Castañuela 70, el teatro prohibido in 2007.
He has also worked as first assistant director with filmmakers including Pedro Almodóvar, Isabel Coixet, Emilio Estevez, Javier Fesser and Fernando Franco.
