Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Michel Franco (Mexico City, 1979) directed, in 2009, his first feature film, Daniel y Ana, (Daniel & Ana) shown at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes and at Horizontes Latinos in San Sebastian. He returned to Cannes with Después de Lucía (After Lucía, 2012), winner of the Un Certain Regard Award and Special Mention in Horizontes Latinos. This was followed in 2015 by A los ojos and Chronic, Best Screenplay at Cannes and which also competed in Horizontes Latinos. With Las hijas de Abril (April’s Daughter) he returned to Un Certain Regard, where he nabbed the Jury Prize, and to San Sebastian’s Horizontes Latinos. Nuevo orden (New Order) competed at the last Venice Festival and is included in this year’s Perlak section. Worthy of note in his work as a producer are 600 millas (600 miles, Gabriel Ripstein; 2015), winner of the Best First Feature Award at Berlin and presented in Horizontes Latinos at San Sebastian, and Desde allá (Lorenzo Vigas), which landed the Golden Lion at Venice 2015 and a Special Mention in Horizontes Latinos.
